The Christian-Albrechts-University of Kiel, Faculty of Engineering, Department of Computer Science, announces in a joint appointment with the ZBW – Leibniz Information Centre for Economics, Kiel, the position of a

Professor (W2) in Web Science

to be filled in 2013 and initially limited to six years.

Web Science understands the World Wide Web as a socio-technical phenomenon and is based on a deep technological understanding of current Web technology. It addresses research in areas ranging from computer science to information science.

The new professor is expected to conduct excellent research and to teach in the field of Web Science. Research emphasis should include preferably several of the following areas

  • Design and effects of Web-based communication, information and research environments
  • Dynamics of new publication, research and collaboration processes
  • Analysis of user behaviour and usage patterns
  • Web content analytics

It is expected that the new professor aligns his or her research with the research and development of ZBW’s online services (see http://zbw.eu/index-e.html) as well as ongoing and future research projects (see http://zbw.eu/e_about_us/e_projects.htm).

Experience in raising external research funds and in managing complex research projects is an advantage.

The position will be located in Kiel. The new professor is expected to contribute to teaching bachelor and master students in Business Informatics at the Christian-Albrechts-University of Kiel for four hours per week during the semester.

The willingness to learn German is expected.

Professor (W2) in Knowledge Discovery

to be filled in 2013 and initially limited to six years.

Knowledge Discovery deals with the content-driven identification and localisation of digital objects (e.g. research data, documents, profiles, communities) and relationships among them. It involves the design of innovative methodologies and algorithms and their application to extensive data and document corpora.

The new professor is expected to conduct excellent research and to teach in the field of Knowledge Discovery. Research emphasis should cover several of the following areas including evaluation and validation

  • Application of semantic technologies for enhanced Knowledge Discovery
  • Mining of research data (e.g. linked open data) and metadata sets (e.g. bibliographic data)
  • Design and conceptualisation of relationship discovery
  • Application of visual analytics for Knowledge Discovery
